Located 12 miles south of Vail, the Homestake Valley contains one of the most valuable wetland ecosystems in Colorado. This 9-mile valley is bestowed with dozens of beaver ponds, ancient fens and hidden meadows threaded along the pristine waters of Homestake Creek.

The valley is home to a variety of wildlife including moose, elk, deer, black bear, marmots, fox, songbirds, waterfowl and the endangered lynx and boreal toad. As a principle watershed for the Eagle River, its preservation is also vital to the well-being of Eagle County’s economy and ranching heritage.

Unfortunately, Homestake Valley continues to be endangered by another large scale dam project that would devastate its ecosystem and divert even more water from the Eagle River Valley. In response to this ongoing potential threat, Conservation Photo Initiative is creating a preemptive campaign to educate and unite communities, ranchers, legislators and business leaders on both sides of the Continental Divide against this incredibly destructive proposal.
